Talk to the World Program

Invest in Bogota in its strategy to contribute to the investment climate in Bogotá, and in response to the growing demand of human talent with skills in English, implemented from 2008 until 2013 the city´s English program: Talk the World (T2W).

T2W was an English training and certification program with emphasis on conversation, funded by the District Department of Economic Development and targeted to the working age population of lower economic strata.

The program certified more than 12,000 people in B2 or higher levels according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR). With this result, Bogotá is the city in Colombia with the highest number of certified bilingual people.

In order to respond to the growing needs of the private sector, in 2012 the program adjusted its curriculum toward business English and adopted the international certification BULATS (Business Language Testing Service). This certification, in addition to being a tool that improved the employment profile of the beneficiaries, it also supported companies in staff recruiting.

The high quality standards of the program were reflected in the latest satisfaction survey conducted in 2012 where 85% of the beneficiaries gave the program a grade between 8 and 10 (where the maximum was 10), and 90% said they would recommend it.

The objective of Invest in Bogota has been to promote bilingualism as a crucial element in job training, thus becoming a winning initiative that has improved conditions for attracting investment that generates decent work.
