El Corte Inglés, Spain's largest retailer, and the Chamber of Commerce of Bogotá have just established a strategic partnership to position Bogotá’s gastronomy around the world. The "Bogotá Marcando Estilo" project, which seeks to showcase the sector’s importance and potential in international markets such as Spain and Portugal, was born as a result of these negotiations and will include events, contests, and launches revolving around Colombian food.
The first stage of the project begins with a cooking contest that will put the creativity and skill of Bogotá’s best chefs to the test and prove just how the local cuisine can meet the high quality standards of foreign markets. The event, which also features conferences and other activities, will be held at the Ágora Convention Center in Bogotá between February 10 and 15. The two winning chefs in charge of designing the menus for the restaurants at El Corté Inglés in Spain and Portugal will be announced on the last day.
There will be three more events during the first half of 2019, including visits to Madrid and Lisbon in March to launch "Bogotá Marcando Estilo" and Harry Sasson's April visit to Madrid. Sasson is hailed as one of the best chefs in Colombia and will visit the Spanish capital to present a menu at one of Madrid's top restaurants. Finally, the winning chefs will have the opportunity in June to bring their gastronomic proposal to the restaurants and coffee shops at El Corte Inglés in the two cities.
