The food and beverage sector in Colombia has high development potential, it is estimated to grow by 23% between 2019 and 2024.  

Why locate in Bogota?

  • Bogota-region is the main food and beverage market and production center in Colombia: Bogota accounts for 43% of total industry sales in the country and is home to 40 of the top 100 leading companies in the sector.

  • Colombia provides a strategic location in the Americas: Manufacturing companies located in Bogota have preferential access to the main markets within the continent.

  • Bogota is renowned for the quality and readiness of its workers: The city boasts a large and qualified labor force with specific experience in the food and beverage industry, and at highly competitive costs.

  • Per capita, food and beverage consumption in Colombia is low compared to other countries with a similar level of development in the region. While per capita consumption of processed food in 2019 was USD 660 in Latin America, in Colombia it was USD 429.
  • It is estimated that the food and beverage sector will have annual sales of more than USD 26.5 billion in 2023.

Bogota is the largest market and production centre for the food and beverage industry in the country.

  • Bogota's market has a higher purchase power than the rest of the country, with a GDP per capita greater in 67% than the national average.

  • The city demands 64% of Colombian total imports, and accounts for 40% of the country's food and beverage imports. 

  • Household consumption in Bogota grew by 4% per year between 2014 and 2019.

Investment opportunities

  • Meeting food demand through formats such as private labels and discount retailers.
  • Operations focused on the developing infrastructure and logistics, specially related to the enhancement of the industry's value chain.

  • With a workforce of more than 6.2 million people and more than 133 higher education institutions, Bogota can guarantee the availability and quality of its human resources.
  • Each year, around 184 thousand students graduate in the city (professionals, technical and technicians).
