Eight years after assuming the Executive Direction of Invest in Bogota, Juan Gabriel Pérez has decided to end his cycle at the head of the foreign investment promotion agency in the Colombian capital.

Pérez, a professional in International Trade at the Universidad Jorge Tadeo Lozano and a specialist in Negotiation and International Relations at the Center for International Studies at the Universidad de los Andes in Bogota, came to Invest in Bogota in 2013, after ten years in the Commercial Office of ProColombia in Madrid, five of them as director.

Since his arrival at the Executive Direction of Invest in Bogota, the corporation has been recognized on six consecutive occasions (2015, 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019 and 2020) as the best regional investment promotion agency in Latin America and the Caribbean by Site Selection Magazine. In addition, fDi Magazine highlighted Bogota in 2016 for being the city with the best investment promotion strategy in Latin America.

In addition, between 2015 and 2019, Bogota went from seventh to third place in the American Cities of the Future ranking, carried out by fDi Intelligence of the Financial Times, which highlights the best destinations to do business on the continent.

“Without a doubt, Juan Gabriel Pérez leaves Invest in Bogota at a very high point and consolidated as the best investment promotion agency in Latin America. We will miss his professionalism, integrity and ability to work, but we are sure that he will continue working from other fronts so that Bogota becomes stronger and the best investment destination, ”said Carolina Duran, Bogota's Economic Development Secretariat.

Juan Carlos González, vice president of competitiveness of the Bogota Chamber of Commerce, in addition to thanking and acknowledging the work done by Pérez, stated that “the new director of Invest in Bogota will be selected through a head hunter. In its task of attracting investment, it must continue to strengthen the agency to face the challenges in a challenging national and international environment. The leadership of Invest in Bogota as a public-private alliance to boost the competitiveness of the city through investment will be key to strengthen the confidence of entrepreneurs already installed in the city and encourage the arrival of new ones. "

Growth and consolidation of Invest in Bogota

Under the direction of Pérez, and with the support of the Board of Directors and a multidisciplinary professional team, the city's investment promotion agency accomplished its most important achievements since its creation in 2006, promoting the economic and social development of the city. In total, in these eight years, Invest in Bogota supported the arrival of 320 projects with an investment of more than 2,650 million dollars, also generating around 38,000 direct jobs.

In addition, in 2020, the most complex year that the city has faced in its recent history, the entity managed to attract investments of more than 110 million dollars through 30 investment projects with foreign capital.

Invest in Bogota is a successful case of a public-private partnership. In the last eight years, every dollar invested in the entity by the Bogota Chamber of Commerce and the Mayor's Office of the city has translated into a return on foreign direct investment of 145 dollars for the capital.

The list of large companies that invested in the city while Pérez was in charge of the investment promotion agency includes names such as Amazon, HBO, Pricesmart, Decathlon, Endava, H&M, We Work, Miniso, Medtronic, Canpack, Mercado Libre and ONE rpm, among many others. In addition, in recent years Invest in Bogota developed a strategy of "anchor companies", aimed at attracting high-impact projects with leading international companies in their sectors.

As of this May 31, when he officially leaves the Executive Direction of Invest in Bogota, Juan Gabriel Pérez will take on new personal and professional projects, in which we at the corporation predict many successes.
