Enrique Cuellar, Biko’s general manager and one of its creators, explains, “For us as citizens of Bogota, it is very important to get to know this global digital ecosystem. Collision gives us the opportunity to share an environment with amazing projects and people who come from all over the world to exchange ideas and dreams. It allows us to seek other markets and establish the necessary relations to make this possible.”

Mr. Cuellar continues, “It is also an opportunity to represent Bogota and show that we are constantly evolving in our city in search of solutions for day-to-day problems. We want to make Biko a success story, and we want people to talk about our initiative in other cities as a novel and effective solution for the need to improve quality of life.”

Juan Gabriel Pérez, Executive Director of “Invest in Bogota,” the investment promotion agency for the city that supported Biko’s journey, states, “Bogota is a point of reference and leader for the region and the world for its innovation in urban mobility solutions. Initiatives such as Ciclovía (closure of some of Bogota’s roads for cyclists on Sundays and public holidays), Transmilenio (bus rapid transit system), recent investments in clean technology for public transportation, and now the Biko application demonstrate this. Enterprises such as this one are an example of creative talent and the quality of human resources that the city offers; one of the factors that makes Bogota one of the most dynamic urban markets with the greatest potential for growth in the continent.”

About Biko

Biko is an application for smart phones created by three businesspeople from Bogota. Users can use it to establish the recommended route for their journey, and simultaneously receive information on security, parking points and lighting, etc., with the collaboration of the same users and social mapping.

Its most innovative function is the creation of a virtual currency (biko) that rewards urban cyclists. Each biko is equivalent to one kilometer traveled and can be used to access benefits such as prizes, discounts, and experiences, and even to make campaign donations.
