Bogota, D.C., Tuesday, September 13th, 2022 (IIB). New and expansion Foreign Direct Investment projects continue to rise in Bogota. This is shown by figures analyzed by the investment promotion agency Invest in Bogota, which estimates that in the first six months of 2022, 60 investment projects valued at close to USD 800 million arrived in the Colombian capital.
These figures, the highest for a first semester in the last three years, also ratifies Bogota as the epicenter of investment in Colombia, since the capital received 61.9% of the total number of investment projects that landed in the country in the first half of the year.
“FDI projects present a growth of 7.1% during the first half of 2022, compared to the same period of 2021. Likewise, the employment generated in the first half of 2022 is the highest in the last three years for the same period of analysis”, highlighted the executive director of Invest in Bogota, Isabella Muñoz.
Precisely, in terms of job creation, it is estimated that the investment projects that arrived in the country’s capital will contribute to the creation of more than 9,600 direct jobs, which implies an increase of 8.6% compared to the first half of 2021.
22 countries invested in Bogota Region
In the first half of 2022, new and expansion FDI projects developed in Bogota Region came mainly from the United States (31.7%), Spain (8.3%), Argentina (6.7%), Japan (5.0%), Mexico (5.0%), Canada (5.0%) and Germany (5.0%).
“In total, the investments that came to the city come from 22 different countries, a sign of the confidence that investors from all over the world have for Bogota Region as an investment destination,” added Muñoz.
The sectors that achieved the highest number of new and expansion FDI projects during the first half of 2022 in the Bogota Region were: software and IT services (38.3%), corporate services (8.3%), financial services (8.3%), communications (6.7%), confirming the city’s vocation for services, and other sectors stand out, such as consumer products (6.7%) and textiles (6.7%).
2022, the year to boost investment
In terms of FDI, the city aims to recover the dynamism it had before the pandemic. By 2022, the software development, IT and service outsourcing sectors are expected to be the main industries receiving investment, in line with the capital’s service vocation.
The analysis of the opportunities identified by Invest in Bogota of the markets with investment interest in the Bogota Region shows a greater appetite from the United States and other countries in the region, such as Mexico and Brazil. The role of China and its interest in investing in the pharmaceutical and technology industries stands out. This confirms the confidence of investors in the capital and its attributes as an investment destination.
