Bogota presented to Chinese organizations the opportunities and advantages the city offers as a nearshoring destination

The regional investment promotion agency, Invest in Bogota, had a virtual tour with 11 Chinese companies, with the main objective of promoting the Colombian capital as an ideal destination for relocation projects. This campaign was focused in companies related to the manufactures industry.

For one week, Bogota presented in front of Chinese companies its strengths as a potential investment destination for nearshoring projects, for economic sectors related to the manufactures sector, which includes energy technology, electrical equipment, materials and devices, circular economy, and aerospace industry.


This campaign is part of Invest in Bogota’s strategy to showcase around the world the huge potential the Colombian capital has to embrace foreign companies operations, that are willing to attend the American market from the city. 


During the virtual campaign, which was made with Procolombia’s support, 11 Chinese companies with potential to invest in Bogota got to know the city’s value proposal, that includes tributary incentives for foreign investment projects, qualified human talent, and a strategical geographical location compared to the principal capitals in the European and American continent, in addition to access to international markets thanks to the 17 free trade agreements subscribed by Colombia.


“The attraction of new nearshore projects is a priority within Bogota’s promotion strategy. This type of projects, with out a doubt, are going to reflect economic growth, new job places, high productivity, and efficiency for Bogota Region, that’s why we can’t stop taking advantage of this growing world trend” highlights the Acting Executive Director of Invest in Bogota, Mauricio Romero.


In addition to te encounters with companies, the investment promotion tour included meetings with organizations like Beijing’s International Chamber of Commerce, with which Bogota has been working in a plan to allow the continuity of the value proposal for Chinese companies to see Colombia as the ideal destination for their nearshore projects. 


The campaign served also to identify the Chinese companies interested to connect with mega city projects, in matters such as mobility, electrical energy, urban renovation, where they could provide services. 


Between 2020 and 2021, Invest in Bogota has identified more than 50 foreign companies that are considering the Colombian Capital as a destination to relocate their operations. The list includes organizations focuses in economic sectors like: IT/BPO, life sciences, and manufactures from countries such as USA, the United Kingdom, Canada, China, Japan, Singapur, Spain, France, Belgium, Denmark, Norway, and Switzerland.
