Culture and business, the key to promoting Bogotá abroad


The Festival Iberoamericano de Teatro (Latin American Theater Festival), an international promotion project to display Bogota's creativity and innovation capacity to potential foreign investors.

In order to reach potential international investors and to show Bogotá's capacity for innovation through culture, Invest in Bogota, the agency for the promotion of investments in Bogotá, signed an agreement with the Festival Iberoamericano de Teatro, FITB (Iberoamerican Theater Festival of Bogota), that will be held between March 23rd and April 8th.

"Creativity, culture, social equity and business were chosen as the most important values that Bogotá can offer foreigners interested in Latin American cities, according to results from a survey made among 60 local leaders by Inpolis, a German company contracted by the Bogotá Chamber of Commerce, the City Tourism Institute and Invest in Bogota, seeking to design a strategy to improve the city's international projection", said Adriana Suárez, director of Invest in Bogota.

"Through alliances such as this one with the FITB, we seek to establish an international promotion strategy in our target markets (the United States, Canada, Germany, Spain, the United Kingdom, Brazil, Mexico, Chile, India, Korea, Japan and Singapore) to foster a stronger position of Bogotá as an investment destination, a city of innovative businesses, of opportunities in personal development and creativity", added Suárez. 

Invest in Bogota is a strategic part of the execution of project such as the Festival Iberoamericano de Teatro, which continues to consolidate the Capital Region as the main cultural, creativity and innovation venue in the country. The agreement includes the promotion of the city brand, the presence of international journalists and the articulation of a promotional strategy in digital media both in English as well as in Spanish. 

Furthermore, in order to continue consolidating Bogota as a city where creative industries abound, the FITB will hold the fifth edition of the International Performing Arts Showcase (Ventana Internacional de las Artes) - VIA, a business round that expects to generate over 1.200 meetings between local theater and dance companies, with strong international acclaim, and foreign bookers from over twenty countries including Australia, Canada, the United States, Korea, Estonia, France, among others, which are interested in taking the best of our region's artistic productions in their theaters and festivals. 

This way, the Festival contributes to the financial sustainability of the performing arts groups in the city, and  partakes in the production and circulation chain of this increasingly important cultural industry in Bogotá.  Juliana Reyes, a member of L‘Explose, a modern dance company, says:  "VIA has taken us to the main venues in the world. Thanks to this internationalization effort, our company has managed to consolidate a career of over 20 years".
