The first edition of the Invest in Bogota Awards was held this Thursday in the presence of representatives of more than 50 international companies to highlight the positive impact of foreign investment in the city’s economy.

During the ceremony, which took place at the new Hilton Bogotá Corferias Convention Center, Juan Gabriel Pérez, Executive Director of Invest in Bogota, remarked on the importance of foreign investment in the city’s transformation. “This is a very special night where we want to thank each of the companies for their confidence in the city. I am convinced that, with your support, Bogota will continue gaining importance as one of the best business destinations in Latin America,” he added.

Bogota received nearly USD 27 billion in Direct Foreign Investment between 2008 and 2018, which also led to the creation of more than 110,000 new jobs. Pérez added that beyond the figures, foreign investment has had a positive impact on the city’s population, who benefit from the improvement in their quality of life thanks to the arrival of this kind of companies.

The companies recognized in the nine categories stood out for their contributions to the creation of new jobs, exports, their impact on mass media, the quality of their service, the city’s transformation and their impact on the retail and manufacturing sectors.

The French company L’ORÉAL, which recently opened a cosmetics production plant in the city, received two of the night’s awards. Scotiabank, which also received two awards, aims to create close to 3,000 jobs by the end of 2019 through its global experience center located in the capital.

HLR Group (Chile) and TuBoleta (Colombia) received a special award thanks to the development of the first PPP unsolicited proposal initiative, which resulted in the construction of the Movistar Arena Bogotá.

Invest in Bogota supported all of the nominees and winners in their investments in the city.

The agency has facilitated more than 336 projects with an estimated investment of over USD 2.3 billion since 2007, when it began operations as a joint initiative of the Chamber of Commerce of Bogota and the Mayor's Office.
