The World Travel Awards, known as the “Oscars of Tourism,” have been established since 1993 as the anual global awards that determines the scope and excellence of the travel and tourism industry. These awards are given through an international voting system, considering categories such as hotels (business, conference, leading hotel suite, resort, green hotel), tourist accommodations, attractions, airlines, DMC (Destination Management Company), Leading Tour Operator, among others. Votes come from industry professionals, media, and the general public, submitted on the awards’ website. After logging in, users can vote for their region and categories of interest. The nominee in each category with the most votes becomes the winner. There is also an expert jury in accommodations, who usually is associated with the World Travel and Tourism Council.
Bogota was recognized as the leading business travel destination in South America, and the Agora Bogotá Convention Center, known for its modularity to accommodate different types and formats of world-class meetings, was acknowledged as the leading conference and meeting center in South America.
