Privileged geographical position

One of the main benefits of Bogota is its privileged geographical position. Located in the center of the continent and the country, the capital city has an area of 1,618 km2 and Cundinamarca has an area of 23,964 km2. In 2022, El Dorado airport was classified by Skytrax as the best airport in Latin America, offering a wide range of international connections. Similarly, the El Dorado airport has the largest air cargo capacity in the region. In 2022, it transported more than 700 thousand tons, surpassing the airports of cities such as Sao Paulo, Mexico City and Santiago de Chile.

Bogota Region has a market of over 11 million people, accounting for 21.7% of the nation’s population (51,7 million in 2022). Its strong and diversified economy explains why it makes sense to invest in Bogota.

Business Environment

Colombia’s economic landscape is reflected in its capital’s positive indicators. Bogota has a favorable business climate. In 2022, Bogota’s GDP accounted for 26.7% of Colombia’s total, namely USD 95 billion. In 2022, Bogota Region’s GDP per capita reached USD 12.117, significantly higher than the USD 6,800 per capita GDP of the country.

As of 2022, the metropolitan Region accounted for 26.5% of the companies created in Colombia, 55.2% of its imports, and 17.8% of its exports. During 2022, Bogota Region exported USD 6,794 million (FOB) and imported USD 42,703 million (CIF). 

In addition, the number of companies with foreign capital that have decided to start operations in Bogota has increased and by 2022, a total of 1.712 of these companies were in the city. 

The strength of Bogota’s economy is evident in its dynamism. During the last five years, the city’s average economic growth was higher than that of Latin America. In 2022, Bogota’s economy grew 9.9%, while Latin America grew 4.0% on average.
