UNESCO City of Music: “Al Parque” Music Festivals

Bogota is the first Latin American city to join UNESCO’s Creative Cities Network for Music, alongside Seville (Spain), Bologna (Italy), Glasgow (Scotland), and Ghent (Belgium).

This distinction stems from its rich offering of free and open-air music festivals, covering genres like rock, salsa, jazz, opera, hip-hop, and Colombian music. Rock al Parque, the largest in Latin America and the third largest in the world, attracted 340,000 attendees in 2019.

The city has over 600 live music venues, which have hosted world-class artists from both classical and popular music scenes, including Daniel Barenboim, Jessye Norman, and Deborah Voigt in classical music; Lady Gaga, Paul McCartney, Coldplay, The Rolling Stones, and Roger Waters in pop music; as well as indie icons like The Killers, New Order, Morrissey, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Hot Chip, Foster the People, TV on the Radio, and Yelle.
