Bogota – Cundinamarca
Bogotá Region: A leading renewable energy hub
Bogotá-Region has strong potential for energy generation, thanks to its abundant solar, hydro, biomass, and geothermal resources, even surpassing the global average.
Annual energy demand is projected to grow by 3% by 2025, requiring 1,800 MW in distributed generation.
Ten municipalities are authorized for the development of renewable energy projects, with a primary focus on solar energy. The first project will be implemented in the municipality of Guatavita.
The transmission network is already completed, and ambitious expansion plans are currently underway to further strengthen the region’s energy infrastructure.

Bogotá Region is working to become a national leader in the energy sector:

Alignment of the Development Plan with climate action, circular economy, and green growth goals.

80% of Bogotá’s waste is not yet utilized. The UAESP aims to generate energy from bioethanol, biomass, and biogas starting in 2026.

The city’s urban structure is favorable for solar energy projects, especially distributed generation and energy communities.

The growth of renewable energy projects in Bogotá is driving employment, generating high-quality, value-added job opportunities.
