With recognized technical expertise and a strong financial vision, Carlos Alberto Suárez Reyes assumed, in February 2025, the Executive Director role at Invest in Bogotá: the public-private agency that promotes the city and region as a strategic destination for investment, business and economic development. Seven months later, his leadership was unanimously endorsed by the Board of Directors, acknowledging the results achieved and the clarity of his purpose: to establish Bogotá Region as a global reference for sustainable investment, innovation and talent.
Suarez, an industrial engineer with solid training in management and strategy, an MBA from Universidad de los Andes and studies at London School of Economics and Political Science, Indian Institute of Management Bangalore and Columbia University has built over 16 years of experience across public and private sectors, specializing in financial planning, strategic procurement, business model transformation and operational efficiency.
His strategy is articulated around three high-impact pillars:
- Strategic Market: Bogotá Region concentrates the largest critical mass of consumption, production and business sophistication in the country, becoming an upscale hub for Latin American and global companies.
- Strategic connectivity: its privileged geographical location alongside strong logistics and airport infrastructure consolidate Bogotá as a natural platform for regional expansion.
- Human capital: over six million people form a diverse, creative and highly skilled workforce — a decisive advantage for knowledge industries, services and technology.
Inmediate Challenges and Transformative Goals
Under this vision, Suárez Reyes is driving an ambitious agenda: to attract foreign direct investment that generates value, innovation, and quality employment, while strengthening sectors aligned with major global transitions such as renewable energy, circular economy, smart infrastructure, advanced manufacturing, and data centers.
He has also emphasized the importance of boosting the entrepreneurial ecosystem and alternative investments, as well as improving Bogotá Region’s business environment through transparency policies, administrative efficiency, and public-private partnerships that accelerate the execution of strategic projects.
Measurable Impact and Future Vision
Over the past three years, Invest in Bogotá has facilitated 132 investment projects valued at approximately USD 919 million, generating more than 25,000 jobs in high-value sectors. For Suárez Reyes, however, the challenge goes beyond attracting capital:
“Our goal is not only to bring in more investments, but to ensure that each project choosing Bogotá translates into competitiveness, quality employment, and a positive impact for the region,” he affirms.
His leadership combines technical precision and social purpose: he seeks for Bogotá Region to evolve from being an investment destination to becoming a platform for value creation, innovation, and sustainable growth for Latin America.
