Intellectual property law aims to protect all those creations derived from the human intellect. There are two categories within intellectual property law:
- Industrial Property
Within this category, intellectual creations such as inventions, utility models, industrial designs, distinctive signs, among others, are protected. It is important to emphasize that, for there to be recognition of these rights, it is essential to register them before the Superintendence of Industry and Commerce (SIC by its acronym in Spanish), because, without this registration, no protection is granted. - Copyright
On the other hand, copyright aims to protect any original creation, meaning any work that reflects the author’s personal touch, whether it is artistic, literary, or scientific in nature, and can be disclosed or disseminated in any form.
