Invest in Bogota launches its Investment Guide for foreign investors

Bogota, Colombia, August 2023. Bogota has positioned itself as a key investment destination in Latin America, due to competitive advantages such as its economic strength, a privileged geographical location, a favorable business environment and a wide range of human talent. A growing number of international companies have chosen the city as their regional center of operations with a high export component. It has also allowed the transfer of technology, knowledge and sustainability to the local productions, as well as linking it to global trade markets.

The capital of Colombia is at the level of such representative cities as Seoul, Copenhagen, Munich, and Montreal, according to the IBM Report, made in alliance with Moody’s. Also, according to figures from fDi Markets (Financial Times), Bogota-Region remains among the top cities globally as a destination for new and expansion investment and ranks third in Latin America, surpassed only by Mexico City and Sao Paulo.

Since the creation of Invest in Bogota, the city’s investment promotion agency, more than 505 new and expansion foreign investment projects have been certified, representing the arrival of more than USD 3.7 billion in the city and creating an estimated 80,000 direct jobs. These projects come from more than 49 countries, including the United States, Spain, Mexico, France and Argentina, which account for 55% of the total investment.

This is why the agency, in collaboration with some of the most important law firms, consultants, universities, and experts in Colombia, such as EY, BRICK Abogados, FTC Consultoría Integral, Brigard Urrutia, Jiménez Higuita Rodríguez & Asociados, Araujo Ibarra, POSSE Herrera Ruiz, Baker Mckenzie, Godoy Córdoba Litter, Gómez-Pinzón, Cremades & Calvo-Sotelo Abogados, Philippi Prietocarrizosa Ferrero Du & Uría (PPU), Godoy Hoyos, Hotbed of research and M&A of  Los Andes University and Crowe, launches the fourth edition of the Bogota Foreign Investment Guide.

This e-book has 9 chapters and presents relevant legal information that the investor should know, as it covers the entire business route, including the migration regime, treaties and other international trade instruments, tax regime, company creation, and international investment and exchange regime, among others.

Each of the chapters can be consulted on the Invest in Bogota website, www.investinbogota.org, with information on updates and specifications on the legal framework, procedures, contracting modalities, risks, regimes, regulations, practices, requirements, and norms related to foreign investment.

“We are very pleased to launch this product with the best national and international experts in the field, with reliable and consolidated information that will contribute to strengthening the business climate and competitiveness and informed decision-making of foreign firms interested in establishing businesses in the city. Thanks to Foreign Direct Investment, Bogota-Region has reaffirmed itself as a platform for opportunities and growth in Latin America, boosting productivity, as well as its economic and social development,” says Isabella Muñoz, executive director of Invest in Bogota.
