• Bogotá accounts for 33% of Colombia’s GDP, continues to outperform both the national and Latin American economies, and has established itself as the country’s leading business hub.
• The Colombian capital offers a strategic gateway to the Americas, expanding infrastructure, a highly skilled workforce and a thriving business ecosystem, making it one of Latin America’s leading destinations for foreign direct investment and international events.
• Bogotá hosts 64% of Colombia’s meetings industry, ranks 36th globally for international association meetings, and is the top-ranked city in Colombia and fourth in Latin America according to ICCA.
• During the first half of 2026, Invest in Bogotá facilitated 15 investment projects worth nearly USD 150 million, expected to create more than 4,000 direct jobs, while its Convention Bureau secured 19 international events with an estimated economic impact of USD 5.8 million.
As Bogotá celebrates 488 years of history, it also celebrates a present shaped by international confidence. Today, the city has established itself as Colombia’s leading economic center and one of Latin America’s most competitive destinations for investment, innovation, business expansion and world-class international events.
Bogotá’s economic strength speaks for itself. The Bogotá Region generates 33% of Colombia’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP), continues to grow faster than both the national and regional averages, and has an economy larger than that of several Latin American countries. Combined with its strategic location at the heart of the Americas, strong air connectivity, a market of more than ten million people, a dynamic business environment and a highly qualified workforce, these strengths continue to attract international companies looking to expand across the region.
The city has also become Colombia’s leading destination for meetings and conventions. Bogotá accounts for 64% of the country’s meetings industry, ranks first in Colombia for international meetings, 36th worldwide, fourth in Latin America and eighth across the Americas in the International Congress and Convention Association (ICCA) rankings. The city also offers more than 220 venues designed for meetings, conventions and events, including over one hundred capable of hosting large-scale conferences and conventions.
These competitive advantages translate into measurable results. During the first half of 2026, Invest in Bogotá facilitated 15 foreign direct investment projects, representing nearly USD 150 million in investment and an estimated 4,021 direct jobs. Of these projects, 55% were reinvestments by companies already operating in Bogotá Region, while 45% represented new investments, underscoring the continued confidence international companies place in the city.
The projects were primarily concentrated in knowledge-intensive services, advanced manufacturing, life sciences and emerging technologies, with investment originating from the United States, Germany, Spain, Mexico and Chile.
Bogotá’s global appeal is equally reflected in the meetings industry. During the first half of 2026, the Invest in Bogotá Convention Bureau secured 19 international events from 11 international markets, expected to attract more than 5,200 participants, generate over 15,400 hotel room nights, and deliver an estimated economic impact of USD 5.8 million. Beyond their direct economic contribution, these events stimulate key sectors such as hospitality, gastronomy, transportation, retail and specialized business services, while fostering knowledge exchange, innovation and international collaboration.
“Bogotá’s 488th anniversary is also an opportunity to recognize how foreign direct investment and international events have become powerful drivers of the city’s development. Every company that chooses Bogotá creates jobs, brings new expertise, drives innovation and strengthens our productive ecosystem. Every international event raises Bogotá’s global profile, stimulates the local economy and creates new opportunities for our citizens. This is the impact we celebrate today—and the future we continue to build for Bogotá,” said Isis Durán, Executive Director of Invest in Bogotá.
With a resilient economy, a strategic location, world-class infrastructure, competitive talent and growing international recognition, Bogotá continues to strengthen its position as Colombia’s leading destination for investment, business and international events, reaffirming that the best way to celebrate its 488th anniversary is by continuing to build a city that is increasingly competitive, innovative and globally connected.
