Bogota, July 2022. Zimmer Biomet, a U.S. company specializing in orthopedic implants, is opening its corporate services center in Bogota, from which it will handle finance, accounting, customer service, global operations, regulatory affairs, product engineering, human resources and purchasing operations for the company’s offices in the Americas, according to Invest in Bogota, the city’s investment promotion agency, which supported the establishment of this entity in the city.
“Bogota was the perfect match for us. Here we found people with many skills, with great experience in the specific field of work,” said Rob Bradford, vice president of Global Business Services at Zimmer Biomet, who also reported that in the investment process they considered 20 to 30 other cities, among which, the one with the greatest attributes to consolidate the project was the Colombian capital.
With its corporate services center, this Fortune 500 company expects to create 500 skilled jobs in Bogota in the medium term. The installation in the Colombian capital, from where the company will provide services in Spanish, French, English and Portuguese, is part of an estimated global investment of USD 2 billion.
“Bogota has already gained experience in the provision of this type of services, which makes more foreign companies want to settle in the city and count on the support of our professionals. It is important to consider that 10% of the shared services centers in Latin America are in Colombia, surpassing locations such as Argentina and Chile; and of these, more than half are in Bogota,” said Isabella Muñoz, executive director of Invest in Bogota.
The city offers numerous competitive advantages for this type of operations, such as its macroeconomic stability, its labor force of more than 6 million people, the fact that 70% of the country’s bilingual professionals are located in the city, and the large supply of qualified professionals in the sectors of interest.
